A note before you begin

From Specialist
to Practitioner

This mentorship series is for doctors who have completed an MD, MS, MDS or DNB and are moving from structured training into independent professional life.

Clinical education prepares specialists for diagnosis, treatment and patient care. This programme addresses the decisions that follow: where and how to practise, how to earn trust, how to manage money and how to build a sustainable career.

One practical decision at a time—so the practice you build is deliberate, not accidental.
Questions early-career specialists consider after completing super-specialisation, including where and how to practise, costs, patients and financial security.
Opening frameThe questions behind the programme
Five decisions that shape a specialist's first two to three years: career goals, practice model, solo or group practice, specialty niche and a realistic runway.
Part 01From Specialist to Practitioner

The first decision

Your first challenge is not clinical.

It is choosing how you want to practise.

Employment, independent practice and hybrid work can each be valid. So can solo or group practice. The right route depends on your interests, finances, family responsibilities, location and long-term ambitions.

Building clinical confidence, professional visibility, referral relationships and a stable patient base often takes two to three years. Mentorship helps you understand the options, avoid preventable mistakes and move forward with greater clarity.

Nine-module roadmap

A coherent professional life—built with intention.

Clinical excellence is assumed. Each part focuses on an important decision that specialist training may not teach.

  1. 01
    From Specialist to Practitioner

Choose career goals, practice model, specialty niche and a realistic runway.

  2. 02
    Choosing Your Station

Assess location, population, competition, affordability and family fit.

  3. 03
    Choosing the Premises

Compare ownership, rental and shared practice without spending ahead of demand.

  4. 04
    Designing Your Practice

Shape hours, appointments, fees, staffing, diagnostics and referral links.

  5. 05
    Building a Trusted Practice

Earn trust through communication, ethics, follow-up and professional relationships.

  6. 06
    Money for Doctors

Separate finances, budget carefully, manage debt and start disciplined investing.

  7. 07
    Protect Today, Prepare for Tomorrow

Plan professional protection, insurance, long-term wealth, retirement and succession.

  8. 08
    The 2-3 Year Practice-Building Roadmap

Set realistic milestones for confidence, visibility, referrals and a stable patient base.

  9. 09
    Mentorship to Independent Practice

Bring every decision together in a practical three-year Specialist Practice Plan.
